HU-16 Albatross

Description

Introduced after World War 2, the Albatross is a rugged amphibious ‘flying boat’ mainly used for search and rescue. It has a reputation for being extremely seaworthy, however requires booster rockets to take off in seas greater than 8 feet. By the 70s it was made obsolete by the higher performance of regular aircraft, increase in number of runways, and development of helicopter technology.

PRIMAL Assessment

A number of surplus aircraft made their way into civilian hands however are not generally used for commercial purposes. PRIMAL and Lascar Logistics would never operate one of these old aircraft as they suffer from poor performance compared to modern offerings. However PRIMAL may charter a modern seaplane design if it suits the mission profile.
