EXPLOSIVELY FORMED PENETRATOR

Description:

The EFP is an armor-piercing slug that is formed after an explosive device has been detonated. Military EFPs are used in various hi-tech devices, however EFPs became notorious in Iraq when Iranian built devices were supplied to insurgents who used them in sophisticated Improvised Explosive Devices.

PRIMAL Assessment:

In an urban environment where it is difficult to dig an explosive device into the road, EFPs allow the bomb to be concealed by the side of the road and disguised as trash, concrete blocks or other street debris. They have been used most commonly in Iraq however videos on YouTube indicate rebels in Syria have started using them.
