FSK

Indicative picture of Norwegian soldiers in Kosovo - not actual FSK

Description

The premier Norwegian Special Forces unit, FSK has been heavily involved in conflicts in the Balkans and Afghanistan. In 1999 it was involved in covert operations in Kosovo supporting the KLA. In Afghanistan it was involved in OPERATION ANACONDA in 2002 and in 2012 it replaced the New Zealand SAS as the mentoring force for the Kabul based Afghan Crisis Response Unit (Task Force 24). As the CRU mentoring force it achieved notoriety in April 2012 when it led the response against the high-profile terrorist attacks in Kabul.

PRIMAL Assessment

Modern day multi-cam-clad Vikings, the FSK has very similar roles and responsibilities to Delta Force and the SAS. They are assessed as being a highly capable special operations unit and experts at mountain warfare.
