RAW

Description

Research and Analysis Wing (RAW) is India’s external intelligence agency. The organization’s primary functions are foreign intelligence collection and counter-terrorism. For counter-terrorism RAW has frequently been involved in renditions and assassinations throughout South Asia, often using its military arm, Special Group, and its air wing known as the Aviation Research Centre.

RAW was heavily criticized for its failure to preempt the Kargil conflict and poor performance regarding intelligence collection and analysis. However, RAW is highly experienced at covert action, including supporting rebel groups, influence operations, assassinations, and renditions. There is very little information on RAW operations in the public domain as they are rarely declassified.
