Description:

The A-10 Warthog is the US Air Force's most effective close-air-support jet aircraft. It is designed around the GAU-8 Avenger cannon which is a seven barrel 30mm beast that fires cigar-sized depleted uranium slugs at over 50 rounds per second. The pilot sits in a titanium armored cockpit and the aircraft is designed to withstand hits from up to 23mm anti-aircraft rounds. Originally designed as a tank-buster, the Warthog has proven itself highly effective in a counter-insurgency environment like Afghanistan.
