MRAP

Description

MRAP stands for Mine-Resistant Ambush Protected and is a family of vehicles designed to withstand IED blasts and ambush. Typically they are four or six wheeled light armored trucks with V-shaped hulls to withstand underbelly blasts. Over 12,000 vehicles were deployed to Iraq and Afghanistan under the US military MRAP program. Since then, many were donated to allied nations and law enforcement agencies in the United States.

PRIMAL Assessment

While MRAPs are more survivable than non-armored vehicles or even the ubiquitous up-armored Humvee, they are still vulnerable to more sophisticated Improvised Explosive Devices. Additionally they offer only limited protection from anti armor weapons. Where possible it is recommended that PRIMAL operatives rely on discreet methods of transport. This may include the procurement and modification of locally available vehicles.
