PKM

Description:

The PKM is an excellent Soviet machine-gun introduced during the 1960s. Designed by Mikhail Kalashnikov, of the famous AK-47 assault rifle, it is still used throughout the world by regular armies as well as in the hands of insurgents, militias, and pirates.

PRIMAL Assessment:

Highly effective in the sustained fire machine-gun role, however the lightweight PKP variant with a fixed barrel is more suitable for dismounted infantry and Special Operations. The Western equivalent of the PKM is the MAG-58 machine gun, known in the US military as the M240.
